Mikey Sheehy of the Austin Stacks club in Tralee has been described as the greatest stylist forward that the Gaelic games has ever seen. He is the highest goal scorer in the history of Kerry football, and on this special Terrace Talk, he talks at length about his legendary career.
During his career he annually had the highest scoring average of any inter-county footballer, and when playing with Austin Stacks, he was a match-winner time and time again. He had a unique exciting talent rarely seen on a Gaelic football field, and from play or frees he was deadly accurate with both left and right feet. One famous goal he scored against Dublin goalie Paddy Cullen in an all-Ireland final will be discussed forevermore in GAA circles.
Mikey won 8 Senior All-Ireland Medals (1975-78-79-80-81-84-85 and 1986). In 1978, he had a superb year and when this legend of Kerry football stepped up to receive his All-Star award it was said of him, "For his constructive positioning, pin-point passing as well as superb marksmanship and exemplary sportsmanship, he is chosen".
